The news comes from eyewitnesses who say the suspect was nabbed by an
irate band of youths of Southern Kaduna, who besieged a nearby forest
searching for herdsmen involved in the grisly attack .
The suspected group of herdsmen allegedly struck in Manchok, Kaura,
early Friday morning. The village sits in a local government area of
Kaduna State . A senior military officer in charge of security situated
in Southern Kaduna, confirmed the capture to SaharaReporters this
afternoon.
According to the officer, the irate youths saw the suspected killers
and gave them a hot chase, in between Kaduna and Plateau states borders,
after which one of them was captured, and another reportedly killed.
The dramatic events unfolded in a knife battle in the thick forest.
A traditional local ruler whose son volunteered a photograph of the
captured suspect said, the suspect made a useful confession in the
carrying out of the grisly Friday killings.
The suspect, according to the officer and local ruler, was handed over
to the security agencies patrolling the area, and was later rushed to
Kaduna for further questioning as part of an ongoing investigation.
The traditional ruler, who spoke under the condition of anonymity,
offered some details of the grisly early morning attack, and capture of
the suspect.
He also told SaharaReporters that the family of the seven were buried
in Southern Kaduna on Saturday afternoon, 1st of February 2014. The
burial and Church services for the family took place amid wide
condemnation and shock over the barbaric killings that has left
residents of Manchok shaken.
