Police have arrested a man in Brooklyn man
in connection with the murder of an imam and his assistant in New York.
The suspect, Oscar Morel has been charged with two counts of
second-degree murder.
On Saturday, Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and his assistant, Thara Uddin,
64, were shot in the head at about 1:50 p.m. in Ozone Park,after
prayers at a nearby mosque and police reportedly found the revolver used
to kill both men at the home of the suspect. The motive for the murder
is not yet known altthough some reports suggest it could very well have
been a hate crime as both victims were dressed in religious wear.
