Unidentified Gunshots Cause Panic At Edo House Of Assembly

Yesterday, May 6, unidentified gunshots within the precinct of the Edo State House of Assembly caused confusion at the Kings Square in Benin City.

As it's unclear who was shooting, there are several theories about what has happened. Some sources attributed the incident to an accidental discharge from the gun of a police escort said to be attached to a lawmaker, while others said the gunshots were from some thugs hanging around the Assembly complex.

It was gathered that the incident has forced some lawmakers, who had just risen from the day’s plenary, to leave the Assembly premises in fear.

Meanwhile, the political crisis in the Edo chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was said to be taking a toll on the House of Assembly, with some legislators loyal to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu faction of the party allegedly planning to defect with him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) very soon.

The development has heightened the already charged political atmosphere, pitting the lawmakers loyal to Governor Adams Oshiomhole and those loyal to the former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) leader, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu against each other
