The
Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Monday denied knowledge of the
whereabouts of a citizen journalist, Ahmed Salkida, declared wanted by
the Nigerian Army over alleged ties with Boko Haram.
Mr. Salkida, a Nigerian based in Dubai, who has extensively covered the Boko Haram insurgency and believed to have access to the terrorist sect’s leadership, was reportedly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to online reports, the journalist was arrested as he
emerged from the Emirates Flight EK785 aircraft that brought him to
Abuja by security agents.
There were speculations the Nigerian military carried out the arrest since declaring him wanted last month over the release of a video showing abducted Chibok schoolgirls in custody of Boko Haram.
But the Defence spokesman, Brigadier General, Rabe Abubakar said yesterday that the military has no knowledge of Salkida’s arrest.
