Tears As Houses Worth N15bn Get Demolished

olokonla
As millions of Nigerians prepare for the Yuletide, which is two days ahead, thousands of residents of Olokonla Town via Ogombo Village in Eti Osa Local Council of Lagos State, will not be marking Christmas in a joyful mood as they continue to wail and agonise over the wanton demolition of their houses by armed military men on December 16.
On the said day, over 50 armed military men stormed the community and demolished over 200 property valued at over N15 billion. Many of the landlords and occupants of the demolished building, who attempted to protect their property were beaten; some to a state of coma, while others were severely injured and are presently receiving treatment at different hospitals.
Narrating his ordeal, one of the victims, Mr. Utomi Michael, whose multi-million naira property was not spared, said: “I bought the 17 hectares during the administration of Bola Tinubu and we were issued all necessary documents. It was initially 24 hectares. I later conceded seven after a protracted court case.”
Michael disclosed that he is the one that sandfilled the entire 17 hectares and built property worth over N500 million on it, which was destroyed in a swoop last Friday.
He pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa and particularly, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to intervene.
Another landlord, Mr. Kenneth, whose three-storey building was razed down, retorted: “Where do they want me to start from?”Yet another victim, Mr. Olufemi Akinde claimed his demolished property was worth over N70 million, apart from another four plots of land he acquired.
Worshippers of In His Presence Christ Tabernacle, a church building that was also demolished, said the action, irrespective of whoever authorised it, was against the tenets of democracy and principle of justice, fairness and equity. It was a slap on democracy.”
Meanwhile, the solicitor representing the families of Bakare, Orebiyi, Seidu Ogunleye, Idowu Bakare, Amonja Oseni and all residents of the town, Aremo Oladotun Hassan, in a petition submitted to the Lagos State Assembly, has alleged that there are strong indications some cabals within the state government were acting on instruction to implement the demolition.
The petition reads: “On December 8, 2016, copies of some contravention notices dated December 6, 2016, were posted on some of our buildings by men who claimed to be officers of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, with a threat of demolition.
“We promptly asked our solicitors to write the ministry, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the general Manager New Town Development Agency (NTDA) among other agencies, intimating them that the matter concerning the land was before Justice Olokooba at the High Court of Lagos in Epe.
“However, on December 16, around 7:00a.m. the residents woke up to witness a willful, unlawful, malicious and an unprecedented, mass destruction of their property by military personnel being ably supported by thugs who rode in a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the Ministry of Physical Planning with registration number LA 200A76 and a Hilux Sports Utility Vehicle with registration number BW 703 AGF.”
Although, a source from the Assembly confirmed the receipt of the petition, he said the lawmakers were yet to deliberate on it, while officials of the state government, who reacted on the issue, though on the condition of anonymity, said the matter was being looked into.

I Won’t Run For President In 2019 – Jonathan

Former-President-Goodluck-Jonathan
Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has cleared the air over reports flying around that he would contest for the 2019 presidential election.
Jonathan, who contested as incumbent and lost to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election, according to reports said he has been under immense pressure to return to power in the next general elections.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Ikechukwu Eze, the ex-president was quoted as saying he has absolutely no plan of contesting the 2019 presidential poll.
Mr. Eze said the former president did not at anytime declare an intention to contest, describing it as mere “fabrication.”
“Our attention has just been drawn to a fabricated online publication alleging that the former President Goodluck Jonathan made comments on the 2019 elections, while hosting his kinsmen in Otuoke last Tuesday.
“Those reports are false and bear no truth whatsoever. The former President was not in Otuoke on Tuesday, neither did he make the comments attributed to him. In fact, he has only just returned to his community to spend Christmas having been away for two weeks, so he could not have been hosting anyone there last Tuesday,” Mr Eze said.
“Of what good is it to our national development efforts if some people spend so much energy spreading falsehood about fellow citizens and our nation?

Rivers re-run elections: Commissioner urges release of SSG, Special Adviser

The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Austin Tam-George, has called for the unconditional release of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Special Adviser to Rivers Governor by the Army.
Dr Tam-Goerge on behalf of the state government, is demanding for the immediate and unconditional release of Chief Kenneth Kobani, secretary to the Rivers State government, and Hon Cyril Wite, special adviser to the governor on Special Projects.
Kenneth and Wite were arrested and detained on Election Day by the Nigerian Military, when they were caught with armed youths in military and Police uniforms on Saturday.
The Information commissioner told Journalists in Port Harcourt, that the SSG and SA were arrested simply for being members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, their fate is the same with thousands of PDP supporters who were brutalised, arrested, shot at, and even killed by the military and thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the rerun elections on Saturday.
Dr Tam George said in many reported instances, the role of the military in the inconclusive elections have been shameful, embarrassing, and a kick in the face of constitutional democracy.
“The military were indistinguishable from the rag tag thugs of the APC, under the direct command of Mr Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Dakuku Peterside, Mr Magnus Abe and others.
“Never in the history of Rivers State have we witnessed such a blatant deployment of maximum violence against unarmed voters,” he said.

The unnamed woman in the Ikwere area of Rivers State was enjoying the attention of the general public in her high heels and beautiful black dress as she headed for an undisclosed location.
The heels she wore failed her legs and she accidentally landed in a dirty gutter and her attractive body was left oozing of the stench that put people off. The woman helplessly sat beside the gutter as she gnashed her teeth and wept bitterly in regrets.

A social media user named Nicholas took pictures and shared on social media for the sake of humour. In his words:

CBN Arrests BDC Operators In Desperate Bid To Halt Naira Slide

The Nigerian Central Bank has reportedly detained some Bureau De Change operators in what appears to be a desperate bid to halt the slide of the Naira.
The Naira has lost value significantly this year on the back of several CBN trial and error policies. Despite announcing a float of the currency a few months ago, CBN has attempted to peg the value of the Naira, resulting in two different valuations for the currency.
While the CBN maintains an official rate of N305, the Naira trades against the Dollar on the parallel market for N460.
Sources say the CBN is attempting to force black market operators to sell at N395, a move which will undoubtedly prove disastrous.

The comments came after Republican Donald Trump was elected president and soon spread like wildfire on the internet. More than 103,000 people have signed an online petition calling for both Taylor and Whaling to be fired.
The petition says the post was “hateful and racially motivated. Every grant and piece of paper Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Whaling have to fill out and sign promises equal opportunities and a racism free workplace,”
Taylor, who runs a nonprofit that provides services to elderly and low-income residents in the county, confirmed to WCHS on Monday night that she was put on leave. She apologized on Facebook but subsequently deleted her page. In a statement to WCHS, she insists that she is not a racist.

Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand”
