Abducted School Girls: House Of Rep Member Faults Patience Jonathan's Meeting

A member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has faulted the summoning of some Borno State government officials over the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, by Patience Jonathan.

According to the lawmaker, Patience Jonathan's action was unconstitutional as her office is not recognised by the constitution.

Patience Jonathan had summoned a meeting on Sunday at Aso villa to discuss the abduction of the schoolgirls and to find a solution to rescuing them but some officials were absent and she broke down in tears.

Speaking shortly after a plenary session yesterday, Abike said the first lady went beyond the limit of her office, adding that it is unthinkable for the first lady to summon the Borno state commissioner of police.

"Summoning public officials like a Commissioner of Police goes beyond the powers of the first lady. It’s like summoning the Inspector General of Police. She has gone beyond the limit of that office," Abike said.

She also condemned Monday arrest of some women who came out to protest over the missing school girls from Chibok, describing it as 'unreasonable'.

She added that the harassment against Nigerian women should stop because the women will not rest until the girls are rescued and re-united with their families.

Recall that Mrs. Naomi Mutah Nyadar, leader of the protest over missing girls in Boko Haram captivity, was arrested on Monday following orders from the first lady but Patience Jonathan denied having any hand in the arrest.

The opposition party, APC had also condemned Patience Jonathan's action, wondering where the First Lady derived the powers to summon elected and appointed officials to Aso Rock to answer her queries over the missing girls.

''I Am A Married Mother On The verge Of Committing Adultery with Another Man, Please Help''

“I have been married for four years. My husband and I have three kids. I have a significant problem. I am extremely attracted to another man who possesses those qualities that I often criticize my husband for not having — spontaneous, quick witted, fun, exciting — all the things that life is not always about on a daily basis. My husband is also quick witted and bright, but is also very bottom line and highly focused on day to day responsibilities that are not so exciting — job, bills, etc.
I have the opportunity to act on my attraction, which I believe is mutual. My heart says to act on it, and I have mildly flirted already, but my brain says no, because I am scared of the consequences.
Is this natural? What should I do?”

JUST IN: US Special Forces To Storm Nigeria Over Abducted School Girls In Borno

In an attempt to assist Nigeria on the unabated acts of terrorism and the increasing cases of kidnapping going on across the country, the US Special forces will any time soon storm Nigeria.

According to reports, the major focus of the forces is to assist the country on the search-and-rescue operation of the abducted secondary school girls in Chibok, Borno State.

It was also gathered that besides rescuing the kidnapped school girls, the United States security forces were also on a mission to Nigeria to bring terrorist activities inflicted on innocent citizens of Nigeria in parts of the country by the dreaded Boko Haram sect to an end.

* President Jonathan has finally accepts US offer to assist Nigeria fight Boko Haram

This is according to the communication of the United States President Barack Obama with President Jonathan offering to deploy US security personnel and assets to work with the Nigerian security forces.

Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on media and publicity, stated this during a press briefing with the State House correspondents in Abuja yesterday.

Abati added that the president has welcomed Obama’s offer to assist Nigeria on rescuing the abducted school girls and fight terrorism in the land, which was conveyed to him by the US secretary of state Mr John Kerry in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

The presidential spokesman said that the US Secretary of State also assured Jonathan that the US was “wholly committed to giving Nigeria all required support and assistance to save the abducted girls and bring the reign of terror unleashed on parts of the country by Boko Haram to an end”.

Abati also informed that President Jonathan also met with the chief of defence staff, service chiefs and heads of national security agencies in continuation of the national efforts to find and rescue the abducted girls.

It was mentioned by one of the protesting women from Edo State identified as Aisha Yusuf that the World Economic Forum on Africa which is to start today will not stall the march.

She was quoted saying by Premium Times:

"We will keep doing this until we get our girls back home and alive. Until we hug them in our arms. We know we are allowed to protest because our constitution allows that. I have a 12-year-old and I cannot just imagine her being abducted and not knowing where she is... Every time I go back home, I hug my daughter because I think there are more mothers out there who don’t have the opportunity to hug their daughters and it’s just not fair."

Officials reinforced security in the country capital ahead of the Forum.

The protesters also demanded that the military regularly update them on the development and the future steps to be taken, stressing though that they are not urging the officials to disclose the operation details which are to be kept secret.

More than 200 school girls were abducted in the April 14 night raid on Chibok, Borno State. Boko Haram sect leader Abubakar Shekau yesterday released the video in which he claimed responsibility for the kidnap and promised to sell the victims in the market.

Meanwhile the tragedy has caused international rage and concern, with many countries suggesting their help in the search process.

Barrack Obama yesterday offered USA assistance in the military operation, which was immediately accepted by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan Faults World Bank Report Placing Nigeria Among Poorest Countries

Nigeria among the five poorest countries in the world, President Goodluck Jonathan explained that Nigeria's challenge is not poverty, but redistribution of wealth.

According to The Nation, the country leader stated this at the May Day rally held yesterday in Abuja. Rebutting the claim about poverty, he said that Nigerians are "the most travelled people", that Nigeria's GDP was growing approximately by 7 % and that "if you talk about ownership of private jets, Nigeria will be among the first 10 countries".

"Some of you will experience that there is an amount of money you will give to a Nigerian who needs help and will not even regard it and thank you but if you travel to other countries and give such an amount, the person will celebrate."

Speaking about the issue of money distribution, which President considers the real core of the problem, Jonathan said his administration is working on providing more Nigerians with access to financial resources. According to the country head, they are also actively developing agricultural programmes to make this field a good source of wealth creation.

Jonathan faulted the international rating saying:

"They looked at Nigeria and we gave explanations and they could not see any convincing reason but to downgrade our economy, they left us as BB minus. They said elections are coming, politicians are shouting at themselves, it may affect their economy, we will no longer give you stable outlook but give you negative outlook, which is same BB minus. When so many countries have been downgraded, they said Nigeria is one of the five poorest countries."

In conclusion Jonathan stated that Nigerians and the authorities were capable of collectively overcoming the current challenges and moving Nigeria "to where we want to go".

Army Concludes Plan To Invade Sambisa Forest

About four battalions of the Nigerian Army would invade Sambisa forest this weekend to rescue the 276 abducted school girls of the Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS), Chibok, Borno State.

A source within the military who made this known on Thursday night, said that a little more than a Brigade of the Nigerian Army had been moved to the forest where the girls are believed to have been held captive.

He said that the forest shares borders with towns in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno and Cameroon, adding that the different battalions would each launch their offensive from these locations, because of the high caliber nature of the arms and explosives in the hands of the terrorists.

"Let me tell you that fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force as well as police surveillance helicopters have been mobilised and are waiting for the command to begin the joint security operations for rescue efforts of the abducted schoolgirls" the source said. "Due to the dangerous nature of the operation which will result in soldiers and security agencies encountering booby traps, land mines, ambush and other unknown traps from the side of the terrorists, Air Force fighter aircraft, helicopter gunships and Police surveillance helicopters would carry out round the clock missions to ensure the success of the operation".

Speaking further, the top officer said that the armed forces battalions that will storm Sambisa forest are taking positions around all the access routes into the notorious forest.

He further revealed that the battalions comprised all formations of the Army- those from Signals Corps, Armoured Corps, Ordinance Corps, Intelligence Corps, Infantry Corps, Artillery Corps, Military Police Corps and the Medical Corps.

According to him, the battalions have been positioned in the North, South, East and West of the Sambisa forest so that when the troops move in from all the angles, there will be no escape route for the terrorists.

Aircraft and land equipment including air ambulances, vehicles with mobile medical facilities and a considerable number of medical personnel, are said to have been deployed for the operation to ensure that casualties, if any, are quickly attended to when necessary.

He said that the Federal Government had made available to the security forces night vision equipment, and that specially trained counter terrorist units, anti bomb discovery units, the K 9 Dog units of the Army and the Police, the landmines unit of the army and other specialised units of other security agencies are all involved in the operation.

Woman Drops Dead After Drinking Holy Water In Abuja

A lady died on Monday after drinking power water allegedly given to her by a pastor at Ajegunle area of  Mpape, Abuja.

According to a resident of the area, the deceased and her friend had gone to the house of the pastor who is known to be able to cure many diseases with his power water that morning. When they got there, the pastor gave them the power water to drink. The deceased drank first and then gave the remaining to her friend who also drank.

"As soon as she drank, her eyes started bulging; she started vomiting blood and died instantly," the source said.

Confirming the incident, the Mpape Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Abayomi Surajudeen said the case has been transferred to FCT criminal investigation department.

At the FCT criminal department, Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, said it is true that a lady died after drinking holy water popularly known as power water given to her by the pastor but added that it cannot be ascertained that the lady actually died from drinking the water because her friend also drank the same water and she's still alive.

He said it would be unfair to accuse the pastor for the death as the lady left the pastor's house hale and hearty, only to get home and start complaining of stomach ache and she died before she could be rushed to the hospital.

According to him, the ladies may have branched somewhere and eaten something else while returning from the pastor’s house.

He however said they are investigating the allegation and that the findings would be made public when concluded.
