I Don’t Owe Anyone Explanation For Visiting Tinubu – PDP Gov, Diri

Delta Govt Building Classrooms Rather Than Prisons– Gov Diri Lauds Okowa
Governor Diri Duoye (Bayelsa State Governor)

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has stated that he owes nobody any explanation for visiting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential election.

According to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor, the opposition is jittery and telling lies over his visit to Tinubu shortly after the Supreme Court declared him winner of the election.

Information Nigeria reports that a video had emerged of Diri congratulating Tinubu after the apex Court affirmed his presidential election on Thursday.

However, speaking at Igbedi community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the State, during the visit of the PDP’s governorship campaign trail on Friday, Diri said there was nothing unusual about his visit to Tinubu.

He explained that he was at the presidential villa to discuss serious state matters with the president, whom he said attended to the issues positively.

“Thursday, I was in Abuja and most of you saw the video trending. The opposition is now jittery and are telling lies. Of course, that is in their character.

“As a sitting governor, there is a sitting president and I do not owe them any explanation about my visit to the president.

“If the Supreme Court affirms the president of the country, as a sitting governor, I reserve all the rights to visit him. But beyond that, I went for very serious state business and I can tell you that Mr President attended to all the issues I raised,” he said,

Court Judgement On IPOB Proscription Will Liberate Nigerians From Govt. Discrimination – Ejimakor

Special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, says the ruling of Enugu State High Court that IPOB is not a terrorist organization will vindicate thousands of lives and also liberate Nigerians from government excesses.

While speaking with journalists, Ejimakor said the judgement has shown that IPOB is not doing anything wrong.

“There many youths being persecuted on the ground of being members of IPOB. With this judgment, IPOB, founded for self-determination, is not doing anything wrong.

“Members are not committing any wrong, and therefore, you cannot grant arrest, detention and prosecution of any IPOB member, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on the basis of self-determination.

“The South East governors fired the first salvo in September 2017, followed by an executive decision by the federal government to proscribe IPOB, and then the declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organization.

“Such actions are prohibited expressly under Section 42 of the Nigerian Constitution. It is a fundamental right of every Nigerian not to be discriminated against in the exercise of government decisions, policies and actions.

“Many Nigerians are not aware of it. We are vigilant to that. We noted that the action of South East governors was an executive action, which was followed three days later by the federal government raising a memo through the Attorney General of the Federation to the President, approving the proscription of IPOB and the declaration of the group as a terrorist organization.

“All of these combined constitute the executive actions and decisions which Section 2 of the constitution prohibits. It is a fundamental right, meaning you cannot violate it, and get away with it.

“Our case in chief is that there are other ethnic organizations across Nigeria that pursue one interest or the other. Nigerians know them. There is a proliferation of ethnic organizations, with some of them being evidently violent.

“The FG never took any step to proscribe anyone of them or declare any of them a terrorist group. It took this proactive step, supported by Southeast governors in targeting IPOB in particular.”

According to him, the legal team which he led took the matter to court to interrogate the actions of South East Governors is in line with the provisions of the constitution.

Recall that the Enugu High Court on Thursday asked the Federal Government and South-East Governors to pay the sum of N8,000,000,000.00 (Eight Billion Naira) to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The court also mandated the respondents to apologise to Kanu for the infringement of his fundamental rights.

Mohbad: Naira Marley Threatens To Sue K-Solo For Defamation Of Character

Nigerian Singer Afeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has threatened lawsuits against Nigerian record producer, Solomon Oyeniyi also known as K-Solo.

Recall that the record producer had in September accused Naira Marley of having a hand in the tragic death of his former signee, Mohbad.

Speaking on Channels TV’s programme, Rubbin’ Minds, K-Solo said, “Naira Marley can’t tell me he is not involved. He has a hand in Mohbad’s death”.

However, responding in a statement released on Thursday, Naira Marley media team disclosed that it will be initiating legal action against K-Solo for ‘defamation of character’.

The team also threatened to sue anyone who makes any allegation against the singer henceforth.

“The legal team representing Naira Marley will be initiating legal action against K-Solo for defamation of character. It is essential to emphasize that making unfounded allegations and false statements can have far-reaching consequences.

“Accusations of this nature not only tarnish the image of the accused but also perpetuate baseless claims that have spread like wildfire because elements like K-Solo and others (especially two known actresses) have spearheaded the campaign of calumny against the person of Naira for reasons best known to them.

“In the past, we kept quiet because we wanted to honor the memory of the dead and honor the relationship with him but we realized many people are setting a negative agenda and spreading a negative narrative against Naira Marley. We will no longer fold our hands and watch people with a negative agenda drag Naira Marley.

“From this moment on, anyone who alleges must present concrete proof not only on the Internet but also in a Court of Law. Every falsehood and rumor will be met with severity and full weight of the law.”

NAFDAC Arrests 66 Drug Hawkers In 10 Months

The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said it has arrested no fewer than 66 drug hawkers across the nation.

The Director-General of the agency, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, stated this while destroying fake and expired goods in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Thursday.

Adeyeye, represented by the NAFDAC Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Francis Ononiwu, said 66 arrests were recorded from 50 raids across the country since January 2023.

According to her, antimalarials, codeine, cough syrups, aphrodisiacs, tramadol capsules, analgesics, and antibiotics worth N8 million were seized from people who hawked drugs on the street.

“Also up for destruction today are damaged and expired products, voluntarily handed over to the agency by compliant companies, trade unions and non-governmental organisations.

“NAFDAC has been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the health of the nation is safeguarded.

“As such, it is committed to eliminating expired medical products, illicit drugs, unwholesome foods, chemicals and other violative products,” she said.

She recalled a recent arrest of one Sunday Chibuike, who was charged to court by the agency for producing unregistered alcoholic beverages.

She said that Chibuike was concocting alcoholic drinks laced with marijuana and other harmful ingredients, which were packaged and sold as Japata bitters in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State.

She, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to shun drug peddlers on the streets and patronise registered medicine stores.

“I hereby appeal to community leaders, religious leaders, health practitioners, newsmen and others to continue to educate their wards and family members to desist from patronising quacks and peddlers of medicine on the streets.”

The NAFDAC boss also appreciated the support and collaboration from the Nigeria Customs Service, Police, NDLEA, DSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

She assured Nigerians that NAFDAC would not relent in its effort to rid the country of substandard and falsified medicines and other unwholesome regulated products.

‘You’ll Actualize Your Aspiration After Tinubu’s Second Term’ — Ganduje To Atiku, Obi

Abdullahi Ganduje

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has called on the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to put aside their differences and collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former Kano State Governor averred that fulfilling their political aspirations will only be possible upon completion of Tinubu’s tenure in 2031.

He noted this while commending the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Tinubu’s election victory.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, on Thursday, Ganduje stated that the judgment conclusively dismissed all allegations from opposition parties claiming that the presidential election results were manipulated in the President’s favor.

Ganduje furthered that the Supreme Court’s verdict will enable President Tinubu to focus on implementing the APC’s Renewed Hope mandate for the betterment of Nigerians.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us, it is our responsibility as patriots to pool our resources together to move the country forward. I congratulate both Atiku and Obi for their dogged fight in extending the frontiers of our democracy and law.

“This is democracy. Tinubu’s victory is another victory for democratic rule in the country. There is still room for both Obi and Atiku to actualize their presidential aspiration after the second term tenure of President Tinubu in 2031,” he noted.

He also called on Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings to rally around the President to ensure that he delivers more dividends of democracy and moves the country on the path of sustainable growth.

Auction Police Barracks, Build Befitting Accommodations — Reps To FG

House of Representatives

The House of Representatives on Thursday called for the auctioning of police barracks across the country to tackle the deplorable living conditions of of officers of the force.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by lawmaker Murphy Omoruyi of Edo State’s Labour Party during plenary.

The motion opined that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Police Affairs to liaise with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to immediately assess the value of all federal-owned police barracks across the country and auction them.

The House said the move was to allow for construction of befitting accommodations for police officers, given the deplorable state of police barracks across the country.

Omoruyi recalled that the National Assembly passed the Police Reform Bill 2020 which was signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari on September 16, 2020.

He however said the problem of adequate and dignified accommodation for police officers had persisted and so far outlived all previous measures.

“For example, between 2019 and 2022, over N5 billion was spent by the federal government on barracks renovations. Despite all efforts, barracks continue to fail to meet basic needs in their current state of disrepair and lack of maintenance,” he said.

He argued that the barracks method of housing for police and local law enforcement officers is “a relic colonial practice that has since been abandoned by the same colonialists in their home countries.”

The lawmaker expressed concern that police officers and their families live in squalor quarters characterized by “large cracks on the walls, bat-infested houses, leaking roofs and dilapidated structures.”
