EFCC acting chairman Magu to sue The Sun Newspaper over report he owns two houses in Maitama

EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has instituted a lawsuit against The Sun Newspaper over claims that he owns a house in the Maitama area of Abuja.
In a story published over the weekend, The newspaper, claimed he is being probed for allegedly owning two mansions in the Maitama Area of Abuja linked to his wife.
The houses which were reportedly bought last year, were said to be located on Danube Street, Maitama and Missouri Street, off Colorado Close, Ministers Hill. Magu in a statement released today, denied the claims.
He stated that he has instructed his lawyers to file a lawsuit against The Sun Newspapers.
“I don’t have any mansion anywhere in Maitama. Would I have two mansions in Abuja yet choose to live in a rented apartment in the same community? The Sun can take over the properties if they have evidence that they belong to me or my wife. This is another calculated attempt to smear my reputation. They may have gotten away with such false reports in the past but I will not let this go unchallenged. I have already briefed my lawyers to institute legal action against The Sun Newspaper”he said

Boko Haram Leader, Shekau is Not Dead – Defence Minister Admits

Claims by the Nigerian Army in September 2016 that it had killed Boko Haram leader, Shekau has been rubbished by the Minister of Defence who said that Shekau is not dead.
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali has admitted that leader of Boko Haram, Shekau is not dead.
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, on Tuesday, admitted that the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Shekau, has not been killed after the government had earlier claimed he was killed by the army.
Revealing more details, the Minister said it has been difficult arresting the sect leader because the insurgents normally wear masks to conceal their identities and divert attention.
The Minister stated this while responding to questions by from newsmen shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari of his ministry’s activities at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He however stated that Boko Haram has been defeated and stated that a visit to Sambisa forest will convince doubters.
According to him, the nation’s security forces have dominated the sect’s stronghold including Camp Zero that served as their spiritual headquarters and communication base.
The minister said, “I believe it is just a matter of time. It took America about seven to ten years to get Bin Laden. So. we will get Shekau as soon as possible.
“The sect’s spiritual headquarters has been ransacked and vandalised. He (Shekau) is on the run.
“He may be hiding in one of the enclaves of Sambisa Forest which we are dominating.
“We have opened up the place. We are using the place as a training area. The Army engineers will open up roads and we shall be patrolling and be ransacking that forest for the whereabouts of Shekau.”
But asked about the claim by the government in the past that it had killed Shekau, Dan-Ali said, “These insurgents have a way of putting on mask. There could be so many but we are looking for the real one. They have been using mask to portray Shekau in one incidents or the other to give an impression that he has been killed so that we will relax. But we will not relax, we are on him.”

Buhari has no certificate scandal-Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday said President Muhammadu Buhari was not involved in any certificate scandal.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, stated this in a statement made available to journalists.
The statement read,
“We wish to emphatically state that President Muhammadu Buhari does not fit into the categorisation of leaders with certificate scandals because he bears none that is on available records.
“In the course of the contest for the office of the President in 2015, a number of wild, untrue and malicious allegations were made against him in order to stop him from contesting the election.
“The issue of certificate was raised against him but the campaign successfully dealt with the allegations by providing evidence that not only was he qualified to run, he had a far higher academic qualification than is required by the constitution. As a result, he went on to run for the office and eventually won.
“Since the purpose of the challenge was primarily to stop him from being a candidate in that election, the challengers either voluntarily withdrew or abandoned the cases soon after he won and all of them were subsequently struck off by the courts.
“The President has no certificate case hanging on his neck.”

3 Things I Did While In Prison – Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday narrated his prisons experience and declared that he did three things while he was in Yola and Kirikiri prisons serving a jail term for a phantom coup charges by the late military dictator, Sani Abacha.
He also said there should be no position that a man should find himself in life where he should not be useful to God.
He also posited that the major challenge in life was not how to stay alive but “what to live for and what to live with.”
Obasanjo said this while recalling his experience as an inmate in Yola Prison where he said he met a hardened armed robber and serial murderer, Baba Ali, who he preached to and later sent to the bible school and who has today become a pastor over a Baptist Church.
The ex-President spoke at Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos, where the Lagos State Baptist Conference held a thanksgiving service to mark his 80th birthday.
The programme was tagged, “Special Commemorative, Commendation and Congratulatory Birthday Service.”
Recalling his time as an inmate, Obasanjo said he did three remarkable things, which were that he built a church while in prison; started a farm, converted Baba Ali to a Christian and served as prison pastor.
He narrated,
“There’s a difference between joy and happiness. In prison, I had joy but it will be madness for me to say that when I was in prison I was happy. How can you be in prison and say you are happy? But I was having the joy of God with me, not for one day was I sad. And I am grateful to God for the experience that I had in the prison.
“I will mention three things that God made me to do when I was in Yola Prison. One, God made me to build a church. It’s very unusual, I asked the authorities for land, they were reluctant, but eventually they gave me land and immediately, we started getting donations. It was started before I left Yola. Wherever you are, you can still be useful to the work of God.
“Secondly, there was a parcel of land, which was not being used for anything, so, I told the prison authorities that I wanted to farm. They were reluctant but eventually they granted me the permission to farm and I grew enough beans to feed all the inmates and the warders. Don’t remain idle, get something doing.”
The third thing he did, Obasanjo said, was at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos where he took over as the prison pastor.
He said he took over as prison pastor because the prison authorities banned preachers from coming in after some white garments preachers who came to preach had helped some inmates to escape by dressing them in white garments.
He said, “
They made sure we did not receive anybody from outside to come and preach to us or fellowship with us. So, I took over as the prison pastor. And there was a boy whom they had introduced to me, his nickname was Baba Ali. Baba Ali was the head of the armed robbers in the North. And if you were an armed robber and you came to the prison, you must first of all go and pay homage to Baba Ali. If you were going out, you must go to Baba Ali and ask him for instruction on what you had to do next.
“So, I called Baba Ali one day and said, ‘You are not coming to fellowship; I want you to be coming to the fellowship.’ He said, ‘Baba, don’t worry me; don’t worry me at all because God can never forgive me. I have killed so many people in my life; I have drunk the blood of so many people; I have eaten the flesh of so many people and God will never forgive me, so, don’t waste your time about me.’
“I left Baba Ali on that occasion, and I waited for some time before I went back and said, ‘Baba Ali, you know all you said that you are a murderer, whether you killed only one person or a thousand people, you are a murderer; but have you forgotten that Moses was a murderer but God used him to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt? David was a murderer but God called him a man after my heart.
“By the time I was leaving the prison, I told Baba Ali that if he was able to make it and he would like to go to bible school, I would send him to bible school. Baba Ali came out of prison two years after me. By the time he came out I had become the President of Nigeria. It took him two years to get through to me, when he got to me, I reminded him of our agreement and he said he was ready to go to the bible school. So, I sent him to the seminary. Baba Ali spent two years in the seminary, today Baba Ali is the pastor of a Baptist Church. What is more? Baba Ali’s junior brother took after him and has also become a pastor.”
The church presented Obasanjo with a bible, a bell and a bottle of olive oil.
He was accompanied by his wife Bola, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora among others.
