Abuja Court Order Suspending PDP Convention Ineffective, Says Publicity Sec. Aspirant

Kabir UsmanAn aspirant for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barr. Kabir Usman, has described as ineffective, an order by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, suspending the party’s national convention.
Justice Abang had on Monday granted an interim order suspending the national convention scheduled to hold tomorrow (Wednesday) in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, pending the determination of the application filed before him on July 20.
The judge gave the order after a lawyer representing the Ali Modu Sheriff faction informed him that the Ahmed Makarfi caretaker committee’s national secretary, Ben Obi, had approached the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court to obtain an interim injunction.
The injunction compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to monitor the convention.
However, Mr. Kabir, on Tuesday said that the Port Harcourt order was “very specific and was given last week” while the Abuja order was given only on Monday.
“Monday’s ruling was intolerable and unacceptable and cannot stand. It is the misconduct of the highest order”, he said.
The Makarfi caretaker committee had already said it would go ahead with the convention in obedience to the ruling of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt
The aspirant, who served as the head of the legal unit of the caretaker committee before he resigned to run for the position of publicity secretary of PDP, said the right thing for anyone dissatisfied with the Port Harcourt ruling to do was to go on appeal and “not a Court of equal jurisdiction”.
“In any case everybody is in Port Harcourt already, so who are they going to serve? We only read about the order in the pages of newspapers”, he added.
On his chances in the election, Mr. Kabir said he was sure of emerging victorious after he was endorsed by the northern caucus of the party.

Ex-Ebonyi Commissioner In EFCC Net Over Alleged N83m Bribe

EFCC-boys1-638x300A former Commissioner for Public Utilities in Ebonyi State, Benjamin Ogbonnaya Okah, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged abuse of office and collecting gratification to the tune of N83 million.
The former commissioner was arrested on Monday based on a petition by the Ebonyi State Government over a $12 million contract to a US based company Califco Group.
The state government said despite the payment of $10.8million as mobilization fee into the accounts of the said company, the project has been abandoned since 2012.
Following receipt of the petition, the anti-graft agency immediately swung into action.
The EFCC’s investigation revealed that both the Abuja and Ebonyi State addresses of the said company were not only fictitious, Mr. Okah was discovered to have allegedly collected gratification from the company in the sum of N83 million between July 30, 2012 and December 30, 2014, through his companies: Global Victory Allied Company and Mahco Mega Nigeria Limited.
Investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

Reps Chief Whip, Ado Doguwa To Drag Jibrin To Court For Slander Over Budget Padding Allegation

alhassan ado doguwaChief Whip of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has threatened to sue his fellow All Progressives Congress (APC) colleague, Abdulmumin Jibrin, for making damning allegations against him in the budget padding scandal.
Jibrin had mentioned Doguwa as one of the principal officers involved in padding the 2016 budget to the tune of N40billion.
In a statement he issued on Tuesday, the Chief Whip said he would sue the sacked Appropriation Committee Chairman for slander, irrespective of any action the House takes against Jibrin when it reconvenes from its annual recess next month.
The statement reads in part:
“With this clear violation of our extant internal code of legislative conduct, which must attract legislative sanctions against Honourable Jibrin, Nigerians should know that all sorts of statements and pronouncements made by Honourable Jibrin were mere sham and misrepresentations of facts.

“He has lost out his campaign of calumny against the House. He has also lost out with the executive arm of government and our great party, the All progressives congress (APC).
“Having realised that he is already consumed, he is now resorting to court options, which I believe, he would lose out as well. Our respected judiciary would never fall victim of his misrepresentations.
“I finally want to categorically state that whichever steps the House may take on Honourable Jibrin on resumption in September, I, Honourable Alhassan Ado Doguwa, would in my personal capacity, definitely charge Honourable Jibrin to court for slander.
“He has maligned and defamed my hard-earned reputation and integrity. No matter what the House decides on Jibrin, I will never step on my responsibility to protect my good name and seek redress through our conventional courts”.

Buhari Abandoned Us After Winning Election – Bodyguards

The bodyguards of President Muhammadu Buhari, who participated during the campaigns, have lamented that they have been pushed to the corner.
Buhari Returns
The bodyguards claimed they have been excluded by those they tagged as “cabals in the government.”
According to them, apart from the N20, 000 they got on two occasions in January and February 2015, “we had never and were never given anything.”
Speaking at a press briefing addressed by their spokesperson, Olabiyi Balogun, and three other members, Audu Odemeho, Abdullahi Hassan and Zubairu Idris, the group lamented that those who did not even work for the victory of Buhari were now reaping from where they did not sow.
Balogun said, “Right now, we need Mr. President to appreciate our hard work for him. We need Mr. President to recognise the fact that we have lost everything because we championed the change agenda.
“Definitely, it is not just our exclusion that is a security threat to the country. Anything that will deny any man his dues and legitimate rights can be concluded to mean a security threat because when you don’t get your dues and what is rightly due for you, then you are opened to a lot of temptations. So, we are indeed a security threat.”
Members of the Presidential Bodyguards, put at over 100 personnel, were said to have been drawn from the security and protocol departments and the Buhari Support Organisation.
“During the electioneering campaign, we served the current President, Muhammadu Buhari, as his personal bodyguards. That was who we were and that is what we are till now.
“One would have expected that having worked hard tirelessly and relentlessly for the President to assume the office he had desired all these years, the people that were in the forefront deserved to be recognised, compensated and remunerated, considering the volume of work and gravity of the sacrifices we had to make,” he added.

Basketmouth Apologizes to Goodluck Jonathan

Basketmouth
Comedian Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, has apologised to former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for insulting him.
Basketmouth had earlier blamed Jonathan for the present situation of the country.
In an Instagram post,  He wrote: “Truth of the matter is that I would have voted anyone that could speak two words of English against Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and that’s strictly based on the amount of greed and selfishness we witnessed from members of his (Jonathan’s) administration in the 6 years that he sat on the rock.
“I have said it numerous times that I am not a politician hence I try not to dabble in politics. However I think a few people interpret crying out against injustice by the one as campaign for the other.”
Barely 24 hours after making that post, Basketmouth apologised for “disrespecting” Jonathan.
He wrote: “I have to sincerely apologize at this point that in expressing my opinion in my last post which was primarily to clear the air about who I campaigned, supported or rooted for or didn’t, I was disrespectful to a man I have nothing but respect.
“The last President may have had some wrong advisers and consequently decisions were made that will eventually impact on the economy, however I am sorry if it came across as an attack on the man Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“We all desired a CHANGE, majority voted for it, now we have it, it is definitely a process, a tough one because I know the hustle is real…believe me, I know.
“I trust it can only get better, let’s just try to be patient,” he added.

Court Dissolves 4-Year-Old Marriage Over Missing Placenta

The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday dissolved a four-year-old marriage between Musa Busari and his wife, Kafilat over issues of missing placenta and irresponsibility.
Court-Symbol-of-Justice
President of the court, Mr Ademola Odunade, held that there was little or nothing the court could do on the matter as evidence had shown that the couple had agreed to part ways over irreconcilable differences.
Dissolving the marriage, therefore, Odunade ordered that the man should be giving N3,000 as monthly feeding allowance for each of the two children produced by the union.
He directed that Kafilat should have the custody of the twin children “because they are still legal minor while Busari should be responsible for their education, health and other forms of welfare’’.
Earlier, Kafilat had told the court that her husband and his relatives collaborated to steal her baby’s placenta for ritual.
“Shortly before moving into Busari’s home in 2012, I was already pregnant with a set of twins for him.
“It happened that I gave birth to one of the two children in my father’s home, and on the following day after moving to his home, I had the second child.
“I was very weak because I was in pains, but I discovered that the placenta that came with the child was nowhere to be found.
“I asked his relatives that were around me, but they gave me no useful information as to the whereabouts of the placenta.
“It is the same question I have continued to ask till today, but the only answer Busari gave me is to forget it and to make it a secret between his family and me,’’ she said.
She claimed that because of the missing placenta, Kehinde, the second child, had been having nightmares.
“He shouts in his sleep, regularly fall sick and many more spiritual problems have befallen him as we are regular visitors to the hospital.
“Worst still, Busari does not show any form of responsibility either towards the children or I, and instead, fights me.
“Busari and his relatives are diabolic; the only solution is separation,” Kafilat said.
Busari, who welcomed the divorce, however, denied the allegations against him.
He told the court that he was a peace-loving husband who did everything within his capacity to cater for Kafailat and the children.
“Kafilat is just out to tarnish my image due to her greed.
“On the issue of catering for the sick child, Kafilat wanted me to start going the fetish way and I made her to understand that it is only prayer that could do it as an Alfa,” Busari, an Arabic teacher, said.
