8 officers Detained Over Killing Of Two Persons In Nasarawa

Nigeria Police
The Nigeria Police Force said it has detained eight of his officers in Nasarawa State over the killings of 2 persons during the recent workers protest to the government house over 50% salary cut.
The State commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Bello, disclosed this on Thursday in Lafia while addressing journalists, he added that the incident occurred during recent visit of the National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Ayuba Wabba, to the state.
Mr Bello said the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police headquarters for full investigation.
He said that the doctor, who conducted autopsy on the two victims “said that one died from injuries sustained from hard object while the other died from a pellet”.
The commissioner, however, said that the pellet extracted from the deceased did not match the gun used by policemen stationed at the Government House gate.
It would be recalled that the NLC president was in Nasarawa on Friday to hold talks with the state government over the protracted industrial dispute in the state.
Waba told newsmen in Lafia that unknown policemen shot four workers at the gate of the government house, while they were awaiting the outcome of the NLC meeting with Gov. Umaru Al-Makura.
He said that one of the shot workers died instantly, while another died later at the National Hospital in Abuja where he was referred to for further treatment.
Workers in the state had embarked on an indefinite strike following the decision of the state government to slash their salaries by 50 percent

How I Transferred N1.2bn From Obanikoro Son’s Account – Bank Staff

Fajuyitan made this revelation in his statement at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s office, Punch reports.
The EFCC had invited the banker for questioning as part of investigations into the N4.7bn that was allegedly paid into Obanikoro’s son’s account by the Office of the National Security Adviser in June 2014.
Musiliu Obanikoro
He said the money was paid into the account named, Sylvan McNamara, with number 0026223714.
The account has since been frozen by the anti-graft agency.
Fajuyitan also told detectives that on June 16, 2014, he was given an instruction by the bank’s Head of Operations, Mr. Premier Oiwoh, to transfer N1.2bn to some accounts.
He said, “On June 16, 2014, my boss, Premier Oiwoh, told me to do a transaction for Sylvan McNamara. The instruction was for the payment of N1.2bn.
“The customer’s physical instruction was that its account number, 0026223714, be debited with N1.2bn and pay the following people: Saturaki Bello, N200m; Yusuf Bulama, N120m; Chimenum Njoku, N250m; Franklin Tolani, N150m; Josiah Moses, N280; and Abubakar Sadiq Zanna, N200m.
“My supervisor (Oiwoh) asked me to provide the funds for the Cash-In-Transit unit for onward payment to the beneficiaries.”
It was gathered that the cash, which was originally released for the six beneficiaries, was handed over to Gbolahan under the pretence that the six persons could not be located.
Damola Otuyalo, the Head of Cash-in-Transit Services, had told the EFCC that after receiving the money from the treasury unit, he was unable to pay the six beneficiaries the money and his director (Oiwoh) then instructed him to move the N1.2bn to the private wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on June 17.
Otuyalo had said, “The beneficiaries were not available to be paid as I did not see them and I was later directed by Mr. Premier Oiwoh to move the money to the airport where I will be given further instruction.
“We moved the cash to the airport through the Cash-In-Transit vendor, Bankers Warehouse Limited. I contacted the vendor who made the bullion van available for movement. I personally supervised the loading of the money into the bullion van and escorted them to the airport.”

FG Resumes Payment To Ex-Militants

Muhammadu-Buhari
The Federal Government have resumed the delayed payments to former militants in the oil-rich Niger River delta, addressing some grievances amid attacks that cut crude production close to a 30-year low.
This is contained in a statement by the coordinator of the presidential amnesty program, Paul Boroh as he said about 30,000 ex-fighters, who were receiving a 65,000 naira monthly stipend, were told the government would resume paying stipends after a two-month “hiccup.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has also said it is trying to engage militants to establish a cease-fire after oil output fell to 1.4 million barrels a day, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Emmanuel Kachikwu said on Monday.
Following several years of relative calm, the attacks by the Delta Avengers started in February after president Buhari announced the suspension of security contracts and payments that had turned earlier militants into protectors.
Boroh said he had given assurance to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta militants that their patience was appreciated by President Muhammadu Buhari, who backs the amnesty and plans to invest heavily in the region.
The amnesty program is set to end in 2017 and the government earlier this year said it planned to cut financing by half to about $100 million.

Chief Priest Kills Daughter In Akwa Ibom

police
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command yesterday arrested a 30-year-old chief priest, Eno Akpan, for allegedly killing his 1-year old daughter after striking her back and head with a machete.
Eno, who is said to be the custodian of Ikot Akpan Udo village in the Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, was said to have beat his wife up during a quarrel according to Akwa-Ibom state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani.
Mr. Mani through the state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, said, “on July 23, at 7.30pm, the complainant, Blessing, had a misunderstanding with her husband, Eno Akpan. In the process, the husband beat her up.
“She left the house for her mother’s place, leaving her daughter behind. The husband asked her to return home to take the child along, but she refused. The husband then used a machete to inflict cuts on the back and head of their daughter. She died on the spot.
Eno while confessing to the crime said he had a disagreement with his wife after she returned home late from the market where she sold oysters.
According to him, he used his fists on her, but by the time he picked up a machete to strike her, it cut through their daughter.
He said, “She went to sell oysters in the market. When she came back, I tried to inquire why she came back late and that it was becoming a habit for her to return home late from the market.
“Her reply incensed me and I had no other option than to beat her. The moment I picked up a machete to strike her, she threw my daughter at me and the machete landed on her head and back.”
Mr. Mani noted that investigation was ongoing concerning the matter.

Satanic School Given Go-Ahead Across US

diversity-610460
This week, a temple which worships ‘Satan’ has begun to roll out its extra-curricular clubs across the US.
The Satanic Temple has already seen 9 schools sign up as it plans to bring Lucifer to young children across the world.
However, the extra-curricular programme is an audacious response to a Supreme Court ruling allowing evangelical religious programmes to operate in schools.
The Satanic Temple (TST) is targeting at the Good News Club, a Christian programme for five to 12-year-olds operating in over 3,500 public schools across the US.
TST hopes to counter this evangelical message of “a fear of Hell and God’s wrath” with “rationality, free inquiry, and fun”.
The Satanists do not worship Satan because the temple does not promote belief in a supernatural devil.
Instead, the Temple uses Satan as a metaphor for rebellion and rational inquiry
The Satanists say they are “not interested in operating After School Satan Clubs in school districts that are not already hosting the Good News Club.”
A spokesperson for TST, nicknamed Lucien Greaves, said After School Satan clubs will bring diversity to the religious opinions children are exposed to in school.
He said: “We prefer to give children an appreciation of the natural wonders surrounding them, not a fear of everlasting other-worldly horrors.
The club meetings will include a healthy snack, literature lesson, creative learning activities, puzzle solving, a science lesson, and an art project.
He also added: “It’s critical that children understand that there are multiple perspectives on all issues and that they have a choice in how they think.
Mat Staver, from the Liberty Counsel, admitted TST’s planned clubs are lawful but added he believes the clubs will be poorly attended and fade away.
He said: “I would definitely oppose after-school Satanic clubs, but they have a First Amendment right to meet.
“It’s probably dust they’re kicking up and is likely to fade away in the near future for lack of interest.

Interpol Arrests Fraudster Who Scammed People Of £45m In Port-Harcourt

1
A Nigerian man accused of being the ringleader of an online fraud network that scammed more than $60m (£45m) from companies around the world has been arrested after months of investigation, Interpol said.
The 40-year-old, known only as Mike, was arrested in June along with a 38-year-old in the Nigerian oil capital of Port Harcourt.
He is accused of scamming hundreds of victims and running a network of at least 40 people working from Nigeria, Malaysia, and South Africa.
The man is also said to have money-laundering contacts in China, Europe, and the US, who provided bank account details for the illicit cash flow.
“In one case, a target was conned into paying out $15.4m,” Interpol said. “The network compromised email accounts of small to medium businesses around the world including Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the United States.”
The scams included a supplier’s email being compromised and fake messages sent to a buyer with instructions for payment to a bank account under the network’s control, or the email account of a high-level executive being taken over and a request for a wire transfer sent to an employee responsible for handling such requests.
Noboru Nakatani, the executive director of the Interpol Global Complex for Innovation, said such crime “poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimised in recent years”. The public, and especially businesses, he added, needed to be alert to this type of cyber-enabled fraud.
The arrest was carried out with the support of Nigeria’s anti-fraud agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Following his arrest in Port Harcourt in southern Nigeria, a forensic examination of devices seized by the EFCC showed he [the suspect] had been involved in a range of criminal activities, including business email compromise and romance scams,” Interpol said.
The suspects face charges including hacking, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. They are on bail pending further investigation.

Why My Marriage Crashed” – Star Actress, Steph-Nora Okere

5
Nollywood actress Steph Nora Okere has relocated to Ibadan temporarily for the completion of her upcoming TV series.
The actress who was recently honoured by City People revealed why her wedding was cancelled about 10 years ago and why she is still single.
In her words:
Right now, I’m shooting a new series, Broken Heart in Ibadan that is coming out soon. It is my latest work. I only left the set to come down here to receive my Award from City People because I value this Award so much.
I was in the process of getting married but ended up not getting married. Where I come from, there is the process of marriage when you start the process, the Ibo people will go and make research on the other person’s background and If they find out negative things about the man or woman’s family, that means they will put an immediate stop to the marriage. That was what happened in my own case.
I was never married but the Press got me married to Lanre Falana. I was involved in a marriage process which got truncated along the line. Marriage begins with paying the woman’s dowry, traditional and white wedding. All these did not take place. My family didn’t support marrying a man who kept one woman in one place and plans keeping another one in another place. I attend Catholic church and the marriage process in Catholic, begins with the intended couples tendering a marriage certificate issued by a court to the church. This was the main reason we were in court in the first place.
We were not living together, we had an. Introduction where his family and mine were introduced to each other only. This was the beginning of our problem. For us to discover that we were not compatible. Our court marriage was in July and he went abroad in September only for him to be back a year and half later.
It has not been easy. You hardly can differentiate between a man who truly wants you as a woman because he feels for you, or one who wants to be seen with a known actress. Some men can go as far as taking a bet over you because you are a known actress. But when a good man comes around, I will settle with him. However, my Bible has not told me I can not make heaven as a single woman.
I hope to marry again when a good man comes but for now I am married to Jesus.

DSS Officials Resign Over Nepotism & Bad Leadership

3
A gale of resignation has hit the Department of State Services, DSS, in recent times, forcing the management of the service to temporarily place a moratorium on further voluntary resignation from personnel of the service. DSS OPERATIVES Investigations by Vanguard at the headquarters of the Nigerian secret police indicated that in the last 10 months, no fewer than 70 middle cadre and junior cadre officers had resigned from the service, both from the state commands and the national headquarters.
While some of the officers resigned because they got better offers of employment from, especially embassies of western nations, others resigned because of unfavourable terms of employment they alleged had pervaded the service since the take over of the present Director General of the agency, Mallam Lawal Musa Daura.
one of the staff who resigned two weeks ago, told Vanguard: “The condition of service is no longer favourable. Some allowances that we were entitled to were stopped, while others were cut in half without explanation. “Most importantly, operation allowances that we used to enjoy were stopped without any reason. And we were still expected to put in our best. If I cannot be treated well while in service, how will my family be treated well when I am dead? It’s unfortunate that I had to leave after so much has been invested in me by this country.’’
Another personnel who said he would also leave in the next few months, told Vanguard that the condition of service was no longer palatable. “During the last dispensation, the service personnel were well motivated to do their job. We embark on dangerous covert assignments to keep the nation safe and all that we get in return is insults and suspicion from the leadership of the service. Fortunately, most of us are well trained so our services are needed by those countries that helped in training us. We cannot be jobless. If you get a better offer, it’s only natural to move” he said.
Another complain given by those who left is that “there appears to be no future in remaining. When I joined the service, it was like one family. There was no regional or ethnic segmentation. What we have seen so far is perception of actions or inactions from the prism of where one comes from. We were told during training that your competence will make or mar you. That promise has been compromised. It’s no longer interesting” she said.
Vanguard gathered that at the last count, five of those personnel who left were absorbed by the American Embassy, ten by several banks and other financial institutions as head of security, while about four have joined oil companies. Worried by the steady resignation, the management of the service issued a circular through departmental heads and state Directors directing that voluntary resignation by service personnel should no longer be accepted until further notice. No member of the service was ready to speak on record and the service has no official spokesman since the last one, Marylyn Ogar left service.
However, a senior official of the service who spoke with vanguard in confidence claimed that the last dispensation exposed its personnel to unnecessary wealth “which is capable of compromising operational duties”
“There is no way the present leadership would have continued with the shenanigans that was perpetrated in the last dispensation. Apparently the leadership wants to return the service to its founding vision which is selfless service to the nation. It’s obvious that those who cannot fit in would naturally leave” he said. It will be recalled that DSS 65 cadet officers of the service who were undergoing training at the State Services Academy, SSA, in Lagos, including a sibling of the sacked former spokes person of the service, Marilyn Ogar were asked to leave in September last year, few weeks to their passing out.
No reason was given for their dismissal which was contained in a letter by the Director General of the Department of State Service, Lawal Daura. A senior officer of the service who is familiar with the matter told Vanguard then that their sack was “inevitable” because their recruitment process was “flawed.” He explained that “What happened was that recruitment of most of these cadets did not follow due process. They were brought into the service by politicians without meeting the stringent requirements set by the service in recruiting its personnel. They were dumped on the service by politicians through the active connivance of the past leadership of the service. We are re-organising the service so we cannot afford to have partisan political moles in our midst” the source said. The source who is a senior operative of the service said the process of “weeding undesirable elements” who found their way into the service was ongoing. The present leadership of the service is determined to reposition the service to its professional roles. There is nothing personal about the decision of the service. It was a very painful decision in view of the investment made on them but it was a decision that must be taken” he had said.
