On Friday, 23rd August, 1985, the military government of
Major-General Mohammadu Buhari decided to place me under arrest. My
crime was that I wrote, among others, an article entitled
"Counter-trading Nigeria's Future" in the National Concord, exposing the
government's scam of diverting public funds into private coffers
through barter-trade with Brazil.
A man by the name of Benson Norman was sent from the State Security
Services (SSS) to my office to get me. Not finding me, he left a note
that I must present myself unfailingly at the SSS office at 15 Awolowo
Road, Ikoyi Lagos the next Monday morning.
However, on Sunday, 25th August, 1985, Lateef Aminu came first thing
in the morning to my house to inform me that the government of
Buhari/Idiagbon had been overthrown. For this reason, I am fond of
telling people that God brought about a change of government in Nigeria
just because of me.
Coup-plotter
Under the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, once you ended up at 15 Awolowo
Road, you may never be heard of again. Decree Number 2 of 1984 empowered
Tunde Idiagbon to arrest and detain anybody indefinitely without trial
and without legal reprieve. After Buhari was overthrown, Mohammadu Gambo
opened the prison doors of 15 Awolowo Road on public television,
revealing people in various stages of undress and malnutrition that had
been kept in the dungeons without trial by Buhari's hound-dogs.
As self-imposed Head of State, Buhari had no regard for human rights.
Immediately he seized power, he announced that he would "tamper with"
the press. Soon, the infamous Decree Number 4 was promulgated which made
even the publication of the truth a punishable offence. Under this
cover, Buhari jailed innocent journalists, including Tunde Thompson and
Nduka Irabo. He abolished civil liberties, promulgated retroactive
decrees enabling him to kill Nigerians through jungle justice,
proscribed civil society organizations and professional groups and
exercised "absolute" power.
This same Buhari would now have us believe that he has gone through
some metamorphosis and has become a democrat. I am sure you will forgive
me if people like me don't believe him. Buhari is not, has never been,
and will never be, a democrat. Only in Nigeria would a man with his
track record, who came to power through a military coup that illegally
overthrew a democratic government, now be acclaimed as a democrat. It is
on record that Buhari's military regime is the only one in Nigeria's
history that failed to promulgate a programme for return to civilian
rule.
Facts and fiction
So what exactly qualifies Buhari as a democrat today? Precious
little! There is nothing democratic about forming and joining political
parties just in order to be the presidential candidate. Little wonder
then that Buhari's parties have a short shelf-life. Buhari would like to
be Nigeria's head of state once again. He can no longer achieve this
through the barrel of a gun. The only route now open to him is through
the democratic process. That is the reason he now conveniently fashions
himself as a democrat. It is merely a means to an end; no more, no less.
Buhari's reputation as an anti-corruption crusader is also a myth. As
head of state, he did not make any dent in Nigerian corruption. All we
got was a cosmetic "war against indiscipline." The counter-trade scam
happened under his watch. Rather than deal with it, he sent his
hound-dogs after nonentities like me who dared to expose it. That scam
was no different, in scope and scale, from the petroleum subsidy and
other corruption scandals that have since plagued Nigeria. The Petroleum
Trust Fund (PTF) that Buhari headed under Abacha was also a citadel of
corruption. While Buhari himself might not have enriched himself, his
cronies and those who worked under him did so handsomely.
On three different occasions, Buhari has run for the presidency. On
three different occasions he has failed. That should really be enough.
If, as seems likely, he were to run for the presidency a fourth time in
2015, there is no question that he would fail yet again. Try as he might
again and again, Mohammadu Buhari can never be President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.

My Ideal Man Must Be Handsome –Singer, Niyola
First Lady of Empire Mate Entertainment (EME), Eniola Akinbo
popularly known as Niyola in a recent interview reveals her ideal man.
In her words
I’m not in a relationship and I don’t like the phrase Mr Right. Any man that I would get involved with has to possess certain basic qualities. I have a strong personality so, my man must be confident. Any man who lacks self-confidence will not be able to live with a strong woman. He must also have the fear of God. This is very important and he must be intelligent. It also helps if he is good looking. Attraction is important in a relationship.
On being séxy
I have always been self-aware. I am a woman and have always been conscious of my body and the effect it has on the opposite séx. I am me and being séxy is innate. It is not something I do on purpose, it’s like breathing. I don’t know for a fact if it has helped increase my acceptability or made me marketable. I want to believe my music does all that for me.

Amaechi’ll Never Have Peace In Govt. House Till He Resigns, Wike Vows
As long as Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State remains
in office, he will never have peace, the Supervising Minister of
Education, Nyesom Wike has vowed.
This is even as the minister boasted that the Grassroots Democratic
Initiative, GDI-organized rallies in the state cannot be disrupted by
the police because “the members follow the due process”.
GDI is the political vehicle initiated by the minister to help promote his governorship ambition in Rivers State. It is a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers and has Wike as the grand patron.
The group has been holding rallies under heavy protection from the Mr. Joseph Mbu-led Rivers Police Command but rallies planned by the Save Rivers Movement (SRM), a pro-Amaechi group, are being continuously disrupted by the police.
Speaking weekend during GDI inauguration and thanksgiving at Agric Field in Degema Local Government Area of the state, Wike said of his group, “They will always ensure that they endure until the police clear them before holding meeting”.
The Minister also expressed joy at the resignation of two commissioners from the River’s State Executive Council, adding that GDI had become stronger and confident.
He said: “We are free of any arrest; no police will arrest any member of GDI or interrupt their activities or gathering in this state. Don’t forget it is Amaechi who was ordering police to arrest GDI members anywhere they are gathering.
“Now he is the one crying over arrest and disruption of APC gathering in the state. He has not started crying; the police will continue to chase them until they learn how to follow the due process before hosting any meeting or rally.
“Rivers State is for PDP. I want to officially thank the two commissioners who have returned to where they belong. The best thing for Governor Ameachi is to resign and have peace because as long he remains the governor, he will never have peace”.

What Were the Gains for the Nations Which Legalised Same-Sex Marriage?
n January 7, 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan has signed the
Nigerian Same-sex Marriage Prohibition Bill into a law. Since the
enactment of that Act, some Nigerians and nationals from Western
countries have expressed their displeasure and opposition to the
President and Nigerian National Assembly.
Some of these opponents of the new law have described the statute as draconian and obnoxious while others among them, including the American and British Foreign Secretaries, John Kerry and William Hague respectively, see it as a direct encroachment upon the fundamental rights of Nigerian gay community and a contradiction to the provisions of Nigerian 1999 constitution and international conventions.
To some of these opponents, the new law is repressive because, according to them, nobody is supposed to suffer any discrimination on the grounds of his/her sexual orientation and they have even expressed fear that the Act will cause untold violence, persecution, and prejudice in Nigeria. Others among them have even described millions of Nigerians who support the criminalization of homosexuality and same-sex marriage in Nigeria as barbaric and slaves to tradition, religion, and morality.
Without mincing words, these negative reactions against the new Act, at best, represent obvious naivety, ignorance, western hypocrisy, enslaved western mentality, wool-pulling defence mechanism, and agnostic philosophical chicaneries on the part of the critics. In the first place, these opponents, who usually proclaim themselves as gay-rights activists or defenders of the civil liberties of homosexuals, must be re-educated on the following truisms: In 1795, a legendary Anglo-Irish political philosopher and theorist, Edmund Burke, who was also the father of modern liberal conservatism and representative democracy, taught the whole world a remarkable socio-political lesson to this effect, “THE ONLY THING NECESSARY FOR THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING.”
The lesson Nigerian self-made gay-rights defenders and their western backers should learn from Edmund Burke is that the prevalence or luxuriant growth of an evil, an immorality, a behavioural disorder, an illegality in any nation is an indication of the dormancy and inaction of good men and women in that country. Burke’s teaching equally means that if good people in a country do something, any societal evil or disorder that crops up in that nation will abate, but if they do nothing, it will increase and continue to multiply in enormity. It further implies that it takes the failure of good, honest, God-fearing country men and women to take positive and purposeful actions for political, social, moral, and behavioural corruption to thrive in any country. It also means that anything done by good men and women in a society to eradicate a particular societal malady or moral corruption which fails to curb or uproot it, is futile and as good as nothing. This eloquent and world-widely accepted wisdom of Edmund Burke was given an added stamp of authority and endorsement by Albert Einstein, a Jewish great scientist and a superlative mind in intellectual philosophy who won the 1921 Nobel laurel in physics, in the following words, “THE WORLD IS A DANGEROUS PLACE TO LIVE, NOT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE EVIL, BUT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.”
In simple analysis, these two great men of history wanted the world to know that it does not take thieves, homosexuals, gays, paedophiles, public property looters, or fraudsters, murderers, prostitutes etc. to mitigate the rampancy of stealing, homosexuality, same-sex marriage, paedophilia, prostitution, murder and corruption in a society; it rather takes the practical interventions, passionate actions, and conscious vigilance of honest, good people to keep such evils, such behavioural disorders, such social anomalies at bay.
Another great wisdom handed down to humanity in the 19th century is the classical teachings of James Anthony Froude, a quintessential English historian, novelist, biographer, and editor, who in 1849 advised human persons and societies in this manner, “ACTIONS ARE GOVERNED BY MOTIVES. THE POWER OF MOTIVES DEPENDS ON CHARACTER AND CHARACTER ON THE ORIGINAL FACULTIES AND TRAINING RECEIVED FROM THE MEN OR THINGS AMONG WHICH A PERSON IS BRED” According to this teaching, those who commit evils, immoralities, or illegalities do so as a result of the nature of their mental breeding, learning, nurture, and/or environmental influences.
Froude continued, “OPINIONS ALTER, MANNERS CHANGE, CREEDS RISE AND FALL, BUT THE MORAL LAW IS WRITTEN ON THE TABLETS OF ETERNITY.” According to this message, the bedrock, the anchor, the engine, power, the meat and marrow of human life, any society, and any legal rules is the moral rules. This further implies that human life which is devoid of moral scruples has no essence and no meaning. By necessary extension, it means societal development or civilization is no development or civilization without morality.
Continuing, Froude mused, “OUR FAILURES ARE ERRORS, NOT CRIMES – NATURE’S DISCIPLINE WITH WHICH GOD TEACHES US; AND AS LITTLE VIOLATIONS OF HIS LAW, OR RENDERING US GUILTY IN HIS EYES, AS THE ARTIST’S EARLY BLUNDERS, OR EVEN ULTIMATE AND ENTIRE FAILURES, ARE LAYING STORE OF GUILT ON HIM.” The understanding in this teaching is that what fails or ruins a man, a woman, a society, a nation is lack of nature’s discipline. This further means that disobedience to natural/moral rules of life and conduct is more destructive to a nation than crimes. It also means that crimes are the essential by-products of lack of natural discipline or control. It further implies that for a nation to survive and grow, it must instil natural/moral discipline in its citizens.
I must equally take recourse to Confucius, a legendary Chinese philosopher whose wise teachings more monumentally influenced modern Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and many western countries’ thought than any other sage of the old. In 479 B.C. and in his approach to social harmony, prosperity, and defined moral obligations between individuals and social systems, Confucius said, “TO PUT THE WORLD IN ORDER, WE MUST FIRST PUT THE NATION IN ORDER; TO PUT THE NATION IN ORDER, WE MUST PUT THE FAMILY IN ORDER; TO PUT THE FAMILY IN ORDER, WE MUST CULTIVATE OUR PERSONAL LIFE, AND TO CULTIVATE OUR PERSONAL LIFE, WE MUST FIRST SET OUR HEART RIGHT.”
According to Confucius, to effect a positive change in a nation, the citizens of that country must start at its bottom or basis, which is the individual persons living in families governed by natural rules of life. He taught that the citizens must organize and tame their individual lives well and set their hearts in order. This means that once the bottom of a country (the persons in individual families) is well organized and tamed in morality, the top of that country ( the government) will automatically be well tamed in natural discipline without which there will be no legal, political, economic etc. discipline in the society. This further means that if the families in a nation are made up of thieves, paedophiles, gays, prostitutes, lesbians, those who have sex with animals, with their children, with their sisters, brothers etc., the civil leadership of that society will be constituted by thieves, homosexuals, paedophiles, prostitutes, bestial and incestuous human beings and the country will be drowned in immorality and illegality.
This therefore means that what people do (whether adults or non-adults) in their private lives, homes, bedrooms should be a source of interest and concern to a right-thinking human society because people’s private breeding/life determines their public/official or communal behaviour. I don’t know of any Nigerian, any American or British today whose intellectual and philosophical teachings and thoughts are as legendary, as world-widely respected, honoured, as world-widely accepted and embraced as those of Confucius.
In the light of the aforementioned teachings and lessons, one may now ask: What gain can humanity derive from homosexuality and same-sex marriages? Are homosexuality and same-sex marriage breaches of Nature’s discipline? If yes, should Nigerians condone or acquiesce to their practice in Nigeria? Can human right enure or exist in acts which are violations of Nature’s discipline or in illegality? Are homosexuality and same-sex marriage threats to human procreation? Is human race in danger of extinction if all nations decide to adopt same-sex marriages? Who actually is to blame for the criminalization of homosexuality in Nigeria? Is sodomy not a homosexual act?

Exposed: Why Rivers CP Mbu is Working for Patience Jonathan
When you see this case where a Commissioner of Police leave his
office and run to the airport to welcome the wife of the president,
Patience Jonathan, who has no constitutional office but exhibits so much
power, then you should know that something is fundamentally wrong
somewhere as is presently the case.
When a Commissioner of Police starts taking top security action without consulting the chief security officer of Rivers State, who is Governor Rotimi Amaechi, then you should know the CP is working for someone.
Governor Amaechi has finally revealed why CP Joseph Mbu is working for Jonathan's wife...
In a chat monitored by TON team on Channels on Monday morning, Governor Amaechi gave an insight into what is really motivating the "illegal" actions of CP Mbu who has been acting with impunity.
Amaechi disclosed that during one of his first meetings with the Commissioner of Police who was transferred to Rivers State from Oyo State, he discovered that CP Mbu was promised that he will one day be made the next Inspector of General of Police under President Jonathan's administration.
Amaechi said the first sign of danger started after everything he (Amaechi) discussed with all the top security officers in Rivers State were leaked to Patience Jonathan by CP Mbu.
He said few hours later, Patience Jonathan, who has no powers to interfere with governance in the state, had a meeting with the security officers and gave them counter instructions. Amaechi said it was from that day he got to know that CP Mbu was sent to Rivers State to do a dirty job, which he has continue to do.

FG To Ban Workers From Travelling Overseas On Health Grounds
Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu
Minister of Health, Prof. Chukwu Onyebuchi has said workers employed by the government would no longer be allowed to travel abroad for medical treatment, except on critical cases.
According to him, registering with any NHIS in one’s locality is the best way and it has been made compulsory.
The minister told journalists at a media parley in Benin city that it was a presidential directive to obviate capital flight so as to improve the health sector delivery system in the country.
According to him, the directive will be implemented across all federal government establishments, adding, however, that individuals cannot be denied their rights if they have the resources to foot their bills abroad.
While responding to some of the health challenges in the Nigeria, the minister said a lot was being done to transform the sector and create healthcare access to the populace, which he noted, the present administration was doing to improve the fortunes of Nigerians from its downward trend.

called part of Nigeria’s problems, alleging that he started active
corruption in Nigeria’s political circle.
Speaking yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Dr. Kalu pointed out that he wonders why former President Obasanjo was still walking the streets free, stressing that after the reply of his letter by President Goodluck Jonathan, he (Obasanjo) should have been arrested and prosecuted.
Kalu noted that the $16billion power sector fraud was done by ex-President Obasanjo, affirming that he could not even show good leadership as President during his tenure, adding that he used his position to fight political enemies.
“Well, let me tell you, Obasanjo is part of the problems of this country. The earlier he goes back to his farm the better. He caused all the problems that we are going through. He was worse than Jonathan and any other president of this country.
“In 1999 when he was elected President, instead of giving leadership, he went to fight political war. The goodwill this country had, he squandered it, and this is what we are suffering from today because if he had given qualitative leadership without pursuing political enemies, we would have grown,” Kalu said.

Half Of Nigerian Politicians Are Misfits, Jobless Individuals – Jonathan
Nigerian politicians got more than they bargained for yesterday as
President Goodluck Jonathan described half of them as misfits, who are
not supposed to be in politics but for lack of jobs to do.
According to him, some of the politicians lack a forgiving spirit,
though they have no choice than to learn to forgive as they may find
themselves having to work with those who wronged them in the past.
Jonathan, who made this comment during the first church service of the Aso Rock Villa Chapel and post-national pilgrimage thanksgiving service, was reacting to the homily by Primate of the Anglican Church, Most Rev, Nicholas Okoh, who accused politicians of being very unforgiving.
Jonathan said: “The chaplain accused us politicians that we do not forgive, or that some politicians don’t forgive. Apparently the Bible said this, but politicians are the people who forgive. Politicians are those who forgive because in politics, whether local politics or national, you don’t have permanent friends or permanent enemies, but permanent interests.
“If somebody is your enemy today and there is a change of interest and he becomes your friend, first of all, you have to forgive, otherwise you cannot have a friend that you can work with. But politics is just like some kind of trade. More than 50 per cent of us who are into politics are not supposed to be politicians.
“For example, in the profession of nursing and teaching, people with wicked heart and unforgiving spirit are not the kind of people who should be nurses or teachers, but we find them there. So most of us, who are in politics are not supposed to be there, but because we have no other thing to do. So, if you see a politician that cannot forgive, he is an impostor”, the president added.
Information Nigeria reports that the church service was attended by dignitaries including the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, Mr. John-Kennedy Opara, Rep. Ndidi Elumelu, immediate past Chief of Army Staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika and the president’s mother, Madam Eunice Jonathan.
