2019: ”APC government plans to use corruption charges to silence key opposition figures” PDP alleges

In a statement released on its social media page, PDP says it has gotten information of the APC-led government’s plan to use corruption charges to silence some key opposition figures ahead of the 2019 general elections. Read the statement below
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s attention has been brought to alleged clandestine plots by certain agents of the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to clamp down on key members of the opposition parties ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Part of this heinous plot is also to arrest members of the civil society, opinion leaders, the media and professional groups who refused to buy into the fabrications, lies, deceptions and propaganda of the APC and the Federal Government.
The PDP is reliably informed that the plot against opposition will be hinged on trump up charges of corruption, allegations of plotting to disrupt the processes leading to the 2019 general elections as well as alleged politicization of security issues in the country.
The first leg of this scheme is to commence a vicious intimidation and harassment of PDP members who have refused to succumb to pressure to join the APC in their undemocratic quest to create room for a one party state in Nigeria.
This will be followed by arrests, detention as well as jailing of members of the opposition and others perceived to be opposed to the interests of the APC ahead of the elections.
It is important to state that the trajectory of our political history neither provides a space for a one party state nor a self-succession shenanigan that seeks occupation of political offices without elections.
The PDP, which grew our democracy to become sustainable and successfully handed power to the opposition after the 2015 general election, has a responsibility to ensure that democracy and the application of its tenets flourish without let in our country.
The PDP and the majority of Nigerians, rallying under our repositioned platform, will never be intimidated or cowed on the principles of democracy.
All we are saying is that the APC and its Federal Government must provide good governance and live up to its campaign promises of eradicating corruption, vanquishing insurgency and bringing our currency to the value of one naira to one US dollar, among others.
We want the APC and the Federal Government to know that this country belongs to all of us and that this plot against the people will be firmly resisted not only by the members of our party but also by generality of Nigerians and the international community at large.

”Actng EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu is going nowhere” VP Yemi Osinbajo declares

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, is “going nowhere”.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja earlier today, Osinbajo said there is no justification for the position of the senate. The Nigerian Senate has on two occassions rejected Magu;s nomination as Chairman of the antigraft agency.
Despite the rejections, the presidency has continued to allow Magu head the agency. Osinbajo today told newsmen that Magu has not committed any offence
Magu is going nowhere. Seriously, what offence has this man committed. I have known him personally right from the time of the very first chairman of the commission till now, he is a very dedicated, trustworthy gentleman. Don’t forget he is also the most senior official of the EFCC.”
Osibanjo added that the presidency will not be forced to sack Magu just because the Senate is opposed to his appointment.

‘Lionel Messi should be banned until FIFA proves he’s human’ – Iran Coach, Carlos Queiroz

Coach of the Iranian national team, Carlos Queiroz wants Lionel Messi banned from football because he’s too good at it.
Queiroz insists the Argentine magician should be suspended by FIFA until he can prove he is not an extra-terrestrial! The former Real Madrid coach remembers all too well how Messi broke Iranian hearts with a stunning stoppage time winner for argentina during the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
And ahead of the 2018 World Cup where Iran have been drawn alongside heavyweights Spain and Portugal, Queiroz told Fifa.com: “I’ve always said that Messi is an extraordinary player. He’s out of this world. If he were human, he wouldn’t have had that magical moment in that match. I don’t usually like losing, but I didn’t come away from that defeat with a negative feeling. It’s when something magical like that happens that you know that football is alive and kicking. And that’s why it’s one of the best sports in the world to watch. “And it’s even more of a special moment when it comes from a player who shouldn’t be allowed to play by FIFA until it’s proven that he’s actually human!”

Here’s what President Buhari said at the first anti corruption summit in Adamawa State

Today, President Buhari delivered a keynote address at the first edition of the Adamawa State anti corruption summit where he said, ‘I recommend to other states this model along with all other winning approaches to enhance the progress and development of our Nation’.
See his full speech below…
I am delighted to be here today, and to be part of this memorable event.
It is very encouraging that a State Government on its own ventures into the subject matter of fighting Corruption deliberately, as well as transparently subjects its methods to the whole nation for detailed discussion.
You may recall back on 29th May 2015, when I stated that we are faced with enormous challenges in this Country, with insecurity and institutionalized pervasive corruption being key and that my confidence remained high that together we will tackle them head on. As I had predicted, today I am proud to note that we have not relented in our determination to fight corruption. We are fixing our problems together.
Even though under our system the Federal Government cannot directly interfere in the details of the operations of States, but to see that the gross corruption at the local level is being checked and transparently reported is a thing of satisfaction and joy for me.
We will try to ensure that, there is more responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country.
I note with satisfaction the logical steps taken by Adamawa State Government in the last two and a half years to demonstrate that transparency, fiscal responsibility, accountability and timely delivery of strategic goods and services to develop the state and enhance the confidence of its people is a viable template to fighting corruption.
Team work, the cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislature, the respect and compliance with fiscal and procurement laws, the institutional reforms to improved efficiency, the drive to achieve value for money, as demonstrated by this administration is worthy of note.
I recommend to other states this model along with all other winning approaches to enhance the progress and development of our Nation.
The projects and progress I have seen in Yola along with the reports and presentations made here have given me encouragement on the future of the State. I hope this momentum will be sustained.
To the Government of Adamawa State, I say “well done and keep it up”. To the people of Adamawa State, I congratulate you all for supporting the Government and encourage you to continue to give your maximum support to the State Government in its drive for a much better future.
Thank you and may God bless our country.

“Husband snatcher’s” marriage comes to an end few months after their society wedding, estranged husband collected Range Rover he bought her and gave it to his former wife

The marriage between a Zambian businessman and his Lusaka-based teacher wife has come to an end only one year after the much-publicized wedding.

‘Get a psychiatrist to examine me if I ever join Obasanjo’s movement’ – Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, professor Wole Soyinka says he should be examined by a psychiatrist if he ever joins the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) led by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, Soyinka said the Obasanjo led coalition is not meant for someone like him. “Me? Obasanjo would establish a group and I will become a member of such group? That means they should get a psychiatrist to examine me,” Soyinka said.
He also spoke about the letters which Obasanjo and former military President Ibrahim Babangida addressed to Buhari saying people should get suspicious “when these soldiers speak” because there is the possibility that “what they have in mind is different from what we have in mind”.
“When these soldiers begin to speak, we are supposed to get suspicious and ask what exactly do they have in mind? It is possible that what they have in mind is different from what we have in mind. You can look at it from two perspectives, the messenger and the message. The message should be examined closely. We should not look at the misdeeds of the messenger alone. Let’s start by asking, is he saying the truth or telling lies, or is he being tricky? If he is saying the truth and talking about things that are beneficial to the masses, we would allow that be. After that, we would now look at the person speaking, what is in his mind?’ he said.
