ASUU LATEST: FUTO SACKS ALL ACADEMIC STAFF

The Senate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has sacked all academic staff on its payroll with immediate effect on December 2, 2013, Monday, for failure to return to classrooms.

This has been confirmed by Mr. Chike Ezenwa, the Public Relations Officers (PRO) of the institution, in a telephone conversation with the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri.
According to him, the senate of the university had declared all the positions of academic staff in the institution, adding that they would be advertised starting from December 2, 2013, Monday.
The PRO further explained that the senate council had already compiled the list of vacant positions in the school, adding that who were willing to resume would be adequately protected.
However, the FUTO branch of ASUU said any attempt to break their ranks would be strongly resisted by their members. The Monday’s communiqué urged members to ignore the resumption notice by FUTO management, adding that the branch would not engage in any academic activities until the Federal Government committed itself to implementing the ASUU-FGN agreement.

"I`M READY FOR ANYMAN" COLLETE ORJI

Beautiful actress, Collette Orji is learning from the experience of older actresses who are finding it difficult to get a man to marry in their mid and late 30s. She wants to get married now that she's young so that she wont join those who are now looking for young boys to marry and claim that 'age is just a number'.
I was told that once a lady’s mind is at rest or she is happy, especially when she’s experiencing love, her looks are transformed. So are you in love?
I will agree with you that love brings true happiness but I am not yet in love. If you are expecting tohear from me that I’ve found love you are joking. (Laughter) For my side I no see love at all. I have so much love to share but I have not seen who to shower my love on. I am a very romantic person so I am still looking for love.
You are not telling me the truth. Are you saying with all this your beauty men are not chasing you?
Sincerely, there is no man in my life presently. You may not believe it but that’s just the truth or do you have someone who is ready to give me genuine love?
We can understand that husbands are scarce but are you also saying that boyfriend are scarce too? I refuse to accept that from a beautiful lady like you. Or is it that you have been so broken hearted you’ve chosen to stay off men?
Please Nkechi, don’t put words into my mouth. I am not in any relationship right now I’m stilllooking for love.

ASUU LATEST: IG DEPLOYS POLICE OFFICERS TO UNIVERSITIES

Following an ultimatum the Federal Government gave to striking lecturers, the police announced it was deploying more officers to university campuses across the country.

asuu2

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, said this Thursday evening in a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Frank Mba.
“This is designed to help secure life and property in the Ivory Towers and provide enabling environment for lecturers, students, academic and non-academic staff to go about their lawful businesses without let or hindrance,” Abubakar’s statement said.
10 hours before that, the Acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, had told the ASUU hey had one week to resume.
The police boss also directed all Command Commissioners of Police to personally oversee the intensification of surveillance activities around universities within their State Commands.
In the statement, the police advised lecturers and students within the Institutions to abide by the law and go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation or intimidation from any quarters.
It might be that the Wike’s ultimatum and Abubakar’s announcement signify that the Federal Government is ready to literarily force the lecturers resume work.
ASUU has been on a nationwide strike since July 1, demanding the FG to implement a 2009 agreement it had with the Union. The industrial action will be entering its sixth month over the weekend should it not end until Sunday.

HOW UCHE IWUJI`S MARRIAGE CRASHED

It is no longer news that the barely one year old marriage of controversial Nollywood actress, Uche Iwuji has reportedly crashed. What many, especially her teeming fans are oblivious of is the huge role some unclad pictures of the pretty thespian allegedly play in the collapse of the once happy union between Iwuji and her international businessman lover, Mr. Juwon Lawal.
In fact, unconfirmed information reaching SHOWBIZPLUS has it that shocked and disappointed Lawal has abandoned his matrimonial home and fled abroad to calm his frayed nerves and possibly get over the betrayal. Another unconfirmed report claimed that Iwuji’s amorous affair with the Managing Director of one of the foremost family banks in Nigeria was responsible for the many crises in their troubled marriage.

Lawal EE learnt reportedly heard that his wife was having a secret affair with the top banker and as well discovered some BBM/SMS messages exchanged between her and her lover boy senior banker whose financial house just clocked 30 and still celebrating. Some of the BBM chats included n*ked pictures of the actress, which she allegedly sent to her randy and married lover boy spoilt brat.
It was further alleged that after the heartbreaking findings devastated Lawal abandoned his ‘darling’ wife and their new born baby for the States. A close source who doesn’t want her name mentioned, confirmed the marriage crash, claiming Iwuji had always been unlucky with love. “Not just that, Uche is also back to hustling; looking for movie roles and all that…See, Uche na good girl, but love has been bad and unfair to her.
Remember there was a guy she first co-habited with in Spain and at the end of the day nothing came out of it. And before that, she also dated footballer Joseph Yobo who later dumped her for ex-beauty queen, Adaeze Igwe. Then, Juwon, whom she met in London. The truth is that I really feel for her. However, in a recent chat with Yes International Magazine, the pretty actress debunked the rumour of her marriage crash, insisting that her young family was still intact and waxing stronger.

THE LATEST ON ASUU STRIKE

President Goodluck Jonathan literally disowned the seven-day ultimatum to striking university lecturers to return to work, yesterday, saying the Committee of Vice Chancellors (CVC) issued the deadline.
According to him, the supervising minister of education, Mr. Nyeson Wike, only made the ultimatum public.
The ultimatum, which began counting last Thursday, ends on Wednesday.
Jonathan, also, yesterday, described the ASUU prolonged strike as subversive.
The industrial action, which started on July 1, enters the sixth month today.
“We didn’t give them ultimatum. It was the committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision. The supervising minister of education only passed on the decision. What ASUU is doing is no longer trade dispute but subversive action”, the president said.
Saying, however, that government will consult on the deadline to ASUU members, he said, “So that we will not be perceived to be insensitive, we will consult on the deadline”.
Jonathan spoke, yesterday, while responding to an appeal by a former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, that government should reconsider its ultimatum to the ASUU members to return to work or be sacked.
Alamieyeseigha made his plea at Bayelsa State Government House, Yenagoa, during a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state caucus.
According to the President, “What ASUU is doing is no longer trade union. I have intervened in other labour issues before now, once I invite them they respond and after the meeting they take decision and call off the strike. Atimes we don’t even give them a long notice unlike in the case of ASUU that were given four days notice before the meeting.
As you are meeting to resolve trade disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready, what was expected having met with the highest authority in the land for long hours, was for ASUU to immediately issue statement within 12 or latest 24 hours to state their position whether they were accepting government’s offer or not. And if they are not accepting they state the reason why.
”But despite the fact that I had the longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that meeting until around 2 p.m. and the meeting ended the next day in the early hours of the morning. As far as the government of Nigeria was concern all the critical people that should be in a meeting were there, so what else do they want?

”After that they didn’t meet until one week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority. It was unfortunate one of them, Prof. Iyayi died.
”The way ASUU has conducted the matter shows they were extreme and when iyayi died they now said the strike was now indefinite, our children have been at home for over five months”.
President Jonathan also thanked the Bayelsa people for their prayers and support while he fell ill in London.
He emphasized the need for party faithful to be united, stressing that the key to political success was the unity of the people and that divided people bring about a lot of issues.
In his remarks, Governor Seriake joystickson commended Jonathan’s deep interest in the state caucus and making out time despite his tight schedule to be part of it, where issues affecting the party are discussed and solutions found.
Govt has done enough for ASUU – UNIJOS VC
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Jos, Prof. Hayard Mafuyai, yesterday, said the Federal Government has done enough and even shown commitment for ASUU to call-off the strike.
The VC spoke while answering questions from journalists at the end of the year dinner and award night of UNIJOS 80-85 Alumni Group in Abuja.
He said the challenges facing the education sector in the country over the decades cannot be corrected overnight, so ASUU should call-off the strike.
“We just met with the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and we have been appealing to our colleagues and ASUU to do what we believe should be done, that is to call off the strike,” Mafuyai said.
”I think the Federal Government has done enough to move the education sector forward as the ills of many decades cannot be corrected overnight and we should listen to the mood of the nation to call-off the strike in the overall public interest”.
When he was asked about the security situation in Jos and how it has affected University of Jos, he blamed the media for poor reportage and how it is adversely affecting socio-economic development of the university and Plateau State.
‘Threat won’t end strike’
In a related development, students affected by the ASUU strike say threat would not end the impasse.
The National Coordinator, Education Rights Campaign (ERC), Hassan Soweto, who spoke on the ultimatum to ASUU, said threat will only worsen the situation. “If the FG goes ahead with the threat, then ASUU, the trade union movement and civil society organisations should be expected to respond with nationwide mass protest and demonstrations,” Soweto said.

Victor Samuel, a law student of Ekiti State University, also reacting, said: “With the assertion of the Federal Government, should it sound as if we rule by positivist theory? This is just a barking from the government as it would make no appreciative effort but make the situation more critical.”
Adeola Oluwatayo, a 300 level journalism student of LASU, said the threat won’t end the strike, but rather make the lecturers adamant.
Emmanuel Eca, a final year student, University of Calabar saw the threat by government as an empty one because it has failed in it’s responsibility.
“The question to ponder over is why the FG has continued in reneging on its agreements? They could have averted the strike in the first place by keeping to the terms of the agreement. They should stop playing with our future.”
Another student, Macaulay Adeleye, went political in his reaction when he said: “The threat by the Federal Government won’t materialize at the end of the day due to the fact that it is not all institutions that can embark on such a step and overwhelm the lecturers.”
Going by the threat, ASUU said it was evident that the Federal Government was not ready to implement the agreement it reached with the union.
The treasurer of the union, Dr. Ademola Aremu, said government would only succeed in wasting the time of Nigerians and the youths in the country if it failed to perfect the agreement.

Sometimes I go clubbing, have séx with someone, and then go back to the club to pick up my second victim. Feeling horny right now, so might just text someone on my ‘shag list’ and do it in the computer room (I’ve done this before, was great!) 'With your help of Alcohol I will be able to become an even Hornier Student!’

D`BANJ GETS BOOED IN ZIMBABWE

The biggest fish and the one and only Kokomaster, Dbanj had other plans in his head when he stormed Zimbabwe ready to win the hearts of the crowd at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival dubbed the “Battle of Africa” in Zim.
However, according to sources from Zimbabwe, D’banj gave his fans a very lackluster performance that eventually pissed off his fans that ended up booing him off the stage.
According to All Africa, the festival featured Ugandan reggae musician Bebe Cool and local dancehall artistes Winky D, Guspy Warrior and King Shaddy.
492c1bc6425e11e38d4922000aeb11ae_71
D’Banj represented West Africa while Bebe Cool represented East Africa.
D’Banj was the main attraction and when it was his turn to perform, he exploded onto the stage amid pomp and zest but soon fizzled out and slumped into near- p****graphy with some fans.
He ran out of steam after exhausting his familiar songs in less than an hour and went into what many revellers described as “hogwash”.
His opening song was “Fall in Love”, followed by “Oliver Twist”, “Kukere” remix, “Don’t Tell Me Nonsense”, “Igwe” and “Why Me”. Then he lost the plot.
bebe-cool-21
Neither his scantily dressed dancers nor his swag was enough to sway the majority of the crowd that became visibly restless and disappointed.
So disappointing was his performance that he resorted to X-rated antics with ladies he calls “Kokolates” on the stage, in a bid to kill time.
Among the “Kokolates” was songstress Amara Brown, who jumped on stage and joined in the dirty dancing.
“Let me see all my Kokolates on stage, now shake your boom boom and do the catwalk,” he said, amid boos from the crowd, especially men.
Some disgruntled fans hurled insults and obscenities.
D’Banj failed to impress and was the opposite of the Nigerian twins P-Square who performed at the same festival last year and left fans asking for more.
P-Square were even barred from leaving the stage by fans who craved for more.
“This guy should not have been the main act at the show. He has a few hit songs we know that he has performed. Now look at how he is whiling up the remaining time with the ladies,” said a fan in the crowd.

ASSU STRIKE FINALLY.....!

In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.
asuu.1
This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium.
An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week.
The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level.
It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point and he will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.
A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.
Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.
According to report, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail.
It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.
